The range, and why it is that wide
Installed in Colorado, refinishing existing boards runs roughly $3 to $8 a square
foot, materials and labor together.
Most of the spread inside that range is about how much repair the floor needs before
sanding — replacing damaged boards, filling, dealing with old adhesive — and whether you want a
site-finished oil or a waterborne finish.
Against $6 to $21 to install new hardwood, refinishing is the cheapest good outcome available in
an older Colorado house. It is only on the table if there is enough wood above the tongue left
to sand: pull a floor vent and look at the cut edge before you budget for it.
